The Tuim Knot
The Tuim Knot symbolizes the bridge to the “other world” or “worlds” and also to higher energy and knowledge. This is shown by the vertical axis which represents the celestial world, and the horizontal axis that symbolizes Earthly world.
Tuim knots are also considered solar symbols and the source of light and ultimate energy. They have four equal points representing the four directions (north, south, east and west), and the four elements (earth. air, fire and water) and are enclosed by a circle that represented the sun.
The Tuim Knot also marks the four seasons (punctuated by the Celtic fire festivals - Samhain, Imbolc, Beltain, Lughnasadh),
but the knot also delineates day and night. The horizontal bar of the knot as a literal horizon, the top half symbolizes sunrise, and the lower half sunset. When there is circle around the knots - it depicts the earth as an orb, and the sun rising above her contour (upper 1/2 of semi circle in the cross)
